Sharp Contrast

2010 February 7

I was soooo excited that I was going to start the ribbing on my first sock today. I was sooo close to actually completing one whole sock, and was super proud. It was about 1.5″ taller than this when I went to take a shower:

Sock progress!

Sock progress!

So, remember those precious sleeping dogs? Well, only one remains precious. The other two are terrorists. I’m pretty sure regular readers will know that Paisley is still the good dog. When I got out of the shower, this is what greeted me:

Notice the tangled yarn, and how stretched out the sock is. Almost as though two dogs played tug of war with it...

Two dogs with sharp teeth...

Lack of knitting needles in the stitches. :(

Lack of knitting needles in the stitches. :(

Sure. The hole could be fixed. The yarn could be untangled. The stitches could be picked up at the top. But honestly, it’s stretched to all hell. It’s $3 worth of acrylic yarn. And I think if I continue to look at it, I’ll have a coronary.

I’m not really sure wether to laugh, cry, or throw a temper tantrum of anger.

None of those options will help anything, so instead, I’ll show it to Bob when he gets here, we’ll laugh a little at how sad I am, and the I’ll drop the sock into the trash.

I guess some things aren’t meant to be.

This is even worse than some of my doggie related knitting accidents. I am so sorry for your loss! Holler if you want any advice on dog wrangling. Or if you just want a knitter’s shoulder to cry on.

Oh No! My dog ate half of a tweed sweater once.

Haha, thanks for the note. It was partially my fault for not putting it up high enough. I tend to trust the dogs too much sometimes. My 1st dog is the world’s greatest dog. She was a dream to train and is honestly the best dog ever. Scout is too new and has never lived in a home situation before last month when I got her from the pound. And then there’s Simon, who is new to yarn. :D

My younger sister is a dog trainer, so I’m sure she’ll help, but if you have suggestions I’m totally open.

Ok…first of all, your keywords are too funny!! heehee

Second, boy do I identify with you on doggy destruction. Dogs + knitting = Trouble

My Pele pulled my Tree of Life Afghan off my dining room table when I was 2/3 finished. Fortunately for him, he only managed to pull a few stitches off, although it required me to frog 1/4 of a section. If he had put a hole in the middle, I think things would have gotten ugly.

Tell you what…go buy yourself one of those cupcakes you love so much. Eat it slowly, throw darts at a picture of the pups, and by the time you’re finished with both, you’ll probably feel better.

Well….. at least it was cheap yarn……
Who is your third doggie guest?
Maybe I should listen to the recent podcast….. lol
At least now you can make socks for sure!

As soon as I saw this, I told Leslie that I need to knit you some socks. And see more of you.
On a totally different note, I can’t make it to the cabin, but I’m sending Leslie and Michael with a present for you :) Hope the sock knitting gets better!

Oh my gosh. As soon as I saw the words “tree of life afghan” my heart sunk to the floor. I think I’d have thrown up, hahaha. I love your suggestion of how to feel better, I think I just may have to. :D

The cheap yarn factor was what saved those doggies. 3rd dog is Bob’s. I’ve been hanging out at his house this weekend to let them play (he works really long shifts on the weekends, so I thought it’d be fun to exercise the doggies. (Turns out, maybe they should be exorcized instead, LOL.)

Oh no! I totally wish you could come. Hanging out with you guys in September rocked. Weekends are a good time for me to come down now, since Bob works pretty much all weekend, so maybe I’ll set up a schedule to come down. Like every other month or something. :) What’s the day count to spring fling?

so sorry about your sock, but as I know for my yarn terrorist kitty – nothing at any time is safe – I always put it up even for a few moments.
Try again on some other yarn, OK?

Oh Jackie, I would have thrown a fit. The dogs would be sleeping in the basement for a night so they could think about what they’ve done. Poochie pups!!!!

    I won’t say I didn’t seriously consider that. :)

I’ll totally try again. And this time, I’ll put everything behind a closed door or in a chew proof box, for sure.
